Abstract
Neuroretinitis (NR) is classically characterized by a clinical triad of unilateral vision loss, disc edema and a characteristic macular star. Herein, we report 2 cases of NR with atypical courses. Case1: A 49-year-old diabetic male, presented with bilateral idiopathic NR and the first episode resolved with systemic steroids. However, he developed relapsing episodes of macular edema and disc edema following tapering of steroid, necessitating local treatment with post subtenon steroid injections due to uncontrolled glycemic status. Case 2: A 24 year old male developed idiopathic neuroretinitis in left eye. During the course of treatment with systemic steroids, he developed central serous chorioretinopathy(CSCR) in right eye. Thus steroids were tapered quickly and resolution of both neuroretinitis and CSCR were noted gradually. This report demonstrates the need of specific tailored treatment approaches in patients with NR with atypical courses.
