Abstract
Methods:19 eyes of 13 patients, diagnosed with PFR (retinitis following febrile episode) were retrospectively studied.
Results: Fundus changes: whitish patches(100%), macular star(95%,18eyes), flame shaped haemorrhages(63%, 12eyes), inflammatory vessels (30%, 6eyes), vitreous hemorrhage (1 eye) and OCT findings: sub-retinal fluid (79%, 15eyes), intra retinal white dots (89.5%,17eyes). The baseline median logMAR BCVA and CFT were 1.3 [0.8-1.8] and 423 mic (182-555). 63% (12eyes) received combination of oral doxycycline (D) and oral steroids(S) and 37%(7eyes) received combination of D, S and intravitreal anti-VEGF (IVA). Improvement was evident at 8weeks in BCVA [0.50, (0.3-0.8),p<0.05] and CFT [223 mic,(170-256),p<0.05)] though only 26%(5eyes) attained BCVA >= 6/12
Conclusion: A combination of D and S showed good results. IVA helps in faster visual recovery in patients with severe macular oedema.
