Abstract

Synopsis:In this retrospective study, 44 patients with RD who underwent silicon oil infusion(SOI) were observed for changes in visual acuity. Cataract vs pseudophakic,myopic vs hypermetropic, 3 groups of proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR) patients were compared. Preoperative & postoperative uncorrected(UCVA) ;best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) in LogMAR & spherical correction (SC) was assessed.

Results: SC ranged from 2.25 to 12.5 with mean 5.6±0.4. In cataract vs pseudophakic grp, BCVA improved to 0.6 vs 0.5 respectively with mean SC of 7.7 diopter(D) vs 4.7D resp. In myopic vs hypermetropic groups, mean UCVA improved to 1.5±0.6 vs 1.7±0.6 postop, further improving to BCVA of 0.7 in both grps with mean SC 5.0D & 5.6D resp. Among PVR patients, those in B, C, & D groups had mean SC of 5.9, 5.5, & 5 resp.

Conclusion: Cataractous, hypermetropic eyes become more hyperopic than pseudophakic,myopic eyes respectively after SOI. In PVR B,C,D classes have similar spherical correction.
