Abstract
Herpetic posterior uveitis typically manifests with clinical features of acute retinal necrosis (ARN) or non – ARN . Non-necrotizing form of herpetic posterior uveitis is a rare subtype of non- ARN which has absence of retinal necrosis but can present with mild anterior chamber reaction associated with vitritis, retinal vasculitis, intraretinal haemorrhages, cystoid macular edema and papillitis. Here we report a case of non-necrotizing retinopathy secondary to Herpes Simplex Virus -2 ( HSV – 2) in a young male with clinical findings of bilateral papillitis , midperipheral placoid lesions , bilateral exudative retinal detachment but absence of retinal necrosis. Our patient responded well to treatment comprising of oral steroids , oral valaciclovir and intravitreal ganciclovir injections . The vision improved and no recurrence of disease was noted in follow up visits . Non necrotizing retinopathy secondary to HSV -2 specifically has not been reported in literature till now.
