Abstract

Purpose: To assess the role of Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) in pachychoroid spectrum disease with shallow pigment epithelium detachment (PED).

Methods: Patients with pachychoroid spectrum features with shallow PED were included. All patients underwent fundus fluorescein angiography, indocyanin green angiography, Optical coherence tomography and OCT-A in the affected eyes to look for type I neovascularization

Results: Seventeen eyes of 12 patients were included. Mean age was 54.08 years(range from 40 years to 70 years). A total of 14 out of 17 eyes showed type I neovascularization in OCT-A. OCT showed shallow PEDs’ with double layer sign with SRF. Dye angiography showed few hyperfluorescent spots not specific to any features of neovascularization.

Conclusion: OCT-A has a better diagnostic value for detecting type I neovascularization in eyes with pachychoroid features with shallow PED than dye angiography which further helps to manage the case more efficiently.
