Abstract
Methods: In our retrospective case series, the records 7 patients who presented to the emergency of a tertiary care center with dog bite injury between July 2016 and November 2018 were reviewed. We assessed parameters like age, sex, canalicular involvement, extent of injury, first aid given and surgical repair.
Results: Most affected were children below the age of 7, 4 males and 3 females. Lower eyelid involvement was found in all, associated canalicular involvement in 1, associated facial injury in 2 cases. All cases underwent thorough wound toilet along with injection of perilesional anti-rabies serum following which primary repair was done with/without canalicular reconstruction.
Conclusion: Dog bite injuries can lead to serious injuries of the adnexa. Management includes prevention of infection by a thorough wound toilet, anti-rabies serum and primary repair which gives satisfying results.
