Abstract
A 39-year-old Male came with progressive painless loss of vision in the left eye for the past 20 days. There was no history of any systemic illness. Vision in RE 6/6 N6; LE 6/60. Anterior segment examination revealed Grade I RAPD in the left eye. On fundus examination, hard exudates with macular edema and macular star configuration was seen on the left eye. Right eye was normal. All routine investigations, cerebrospinal fluid analysis and autoimmune workup were normal. MRI brain showed features of optic neuritis. The patient was initially managed with Intravenous steroids for the first 3 days and was switched to tapering dose oral steroids. Gingival swab showed growth of Enterococcus faecium. The patient was started on double dose antibiotics along with steroids. The patient improved symptomatically and BCVA was 6/9 after 45 days. This is the first report of neuroretinitis due to enterococcus in association with chronic gingivitis and is presented for its rarity.
