Abstract
The optic disc morphology and function can be affected by acquired or congenital disease. Glaucoma continues to be one of the commonest causes of acquired optic neuropathy, while we also frequently encounter ischemic optic neuropathies, optic neuritis. careful and systematic clinical examination of the optic nerve remains a cornerstone of glaucoma management. While cupping is often considered a tell tale sign of glaucomatous optic neuropathy, there are a number of non glaucomatous optic neuropathies which can lead to cupping. There are case reports and studies highlighting the dilemma of well trained ophthalmologists while evaluating such patients. We now have numerous optic nerve head imaging modalities which may be used in conjunction with clinical evaluation to improve patient care. This IC aims at providing the audience with the current available knowledge and methods to evaluate the optic disc and ensure better treatment
