Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate outcomes of vitrectomy with microscope-integrated intraoperative optical coherence tomography (miOCT)-guided traction removal and perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) assisted internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling with inverted ILM flap technique in retinal detachment caused by macular holes due to MTM

Methods: 15 cases underwent PPV with miOCT-guided traction removal and PFCL assisted ILM peeling. Inverted ILM flap technique was used to close macular holes. Tamponade was achieved using gas/ silicone oil.

Results: At 6 months followup, retina was attached in 14 cases. Type 1 macular hole closure was seen in 12 cases. Macular retinoschisis resolved in all cases with improvement of BCVA (p-0.038). Intraoperatively, miOCT confirmed macular hole closure by visualisation of flaps over hole, resolution of foveoschisis and vitreoschisis.

Conclusion: miOCT guided modified technique helps in complete removal of traction, resolution of retinoschisis and good functional recovery.
