Abstract
This is to report a case of an 8-year-old boy with neurocysticercosis who had incidental findings of extensive retinal fibrosis in the absence of symptoms. Vision in both eyes were 6/6; N6. Anterior segment was normal. Fundus examination by indirect ophthalmoscopy showed inactive cysts surrounded by fibrotic tissue in the inferotemporal quadrant of both the eyes with peripheral vitreous condensation. Convulsions after a few days suggested neurological involvement and a diagnosis of seizure disorder due to intracerebral lesion was made. MRI brain showed bilateral multiple small hypodense lesions with calcifications which were suggestive of neurocysticercosis. The child was started on antihelminthics and tapering dose of steroids. The child improved symptomatically but inactive cysts remained in the eye. The clinical results in our patient shows a rare case of neurocysticercosis with inactive cysts in eye. The child is being followed up for complications such as reactivation or traction.
