Abstract
A forty-five year old female presented with painless, gradually progressing protrusion of left eye. On examination, there was nonpulsatile axial proptosis of left eye with limited abduction and elevation. There was relative afferent pupillary defect of left eye and optic disc oedema. Systemic examination revealed no abnormality. CT scan orbit revealed a homogeneous, well-defined extraconal mass displacing the optic nerve. Lateral orbitotomy was done under general anaesthesia and a smooth-surfaced, well-encapsulated, whitish mass was found which was sent for histopathology. Histopathology report detected small round cell tumour, which was positive for chromogranin A and synaptophysin on immunohistochemistry – diagnosing carcinoid tumor. PET scan whole body confirmed it to be of primary type.
