Abstract
Method: 50 patients [group A: cases] given subconjunctival ranibizumab (o.3mg) and 50 patients [group B: control] normal saline preoperatively. Both groups underwent pterygium exicision with CLAG 7 days later. Results were analysed in terms of vascularity, size, recurrence, intra & postoperative complications.
Results: There was insignificant reduction of area of pterygium in group A patients on 7th postinjection day but no reduction of area of pterygium of patients of group B. There was insignificant reduction in recurrence rate. There was significant reduction in vascularity in pterygium. Intraoperative and postoperative complications are significantly less in group A than group B.
Conclusion: Single preoperative ranibizumab injection causes significant reduction in vascularity and complications but insignificant reduction in area and recurrence.
