FP0199 : Anemia and Papilledema- A coincidence or a correlation ?

Abstract
A 16 year old girl presented to Eye department with complaints of frontal headache, nausea, occasional blurring of vision and diplopia in right gaze for over a period of 15 days. Ocular examination revealed mild abduction limitation in Right eye. Fundus examination revealed papilledema associated with peripapillary haemorrhages and few exudates with normal foveal reflex. Visual field analysis done which showed enlarged blind spot in both eyes. Systemic investigations showed iron deficiency anaemia. She improved symptomatically and clinically following treatment for iron deficiency anaemia. Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is known to be associated with iron deficiency anaemia and can cause papilledema. This article highlights the importance of the association between the two.
