Abstract
To test the reliability of the Ocular Trauma Score in predicting visual outcomes in patients who have underwent Pars Plana Vitrectomy for surgical extraction of posterior segment Intra Ocular Foreign Bodies at a tertiary eye care centre in Eastern India.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
35 eyes of 35 patients who underwent vitrectomy surgery due to retained IOFB were included. All the patients underwent vitrectomy within a week of admission. The patients were followed up over 6 months and final visual acuity was compared to OTS .
RESULTS
Out of them 30 (85%) were male and 05 were female(14%). The mean age was 36±8 years.Following vitrectomy, all the patients were followed up for 6 months when their final visual acuity was recorded and compared to the OTS scores. No statistically significant differences was found between the two.
CONCLUSION:
The OTS which prognosticates general ocular trauma may be reliably used to prognosticate visual outcomes in post vitrectomy IOFB cases.
