Aim:To describe the clinical features,outcomes following vitrectomy in young advanced diabetic retinopathy with type 2 DiabetesMethods:A retrospective analysis of 43 eyes of 32 patients under 50 years undergoing vitrectomy for advanced Diabetic retinopathy by a single surgeon at a tertiary eye hospital in a span of 4 years with a mean follow up of….Results:The most common indication for vitrectomy was macular TRD(58%) followed by vitreous haemorrhage.A bilateral intervention was needed in 11 patients.Silicone oil tamponade was used in 95% of cases.The final anatomical success rate for macular TRD was 88 %.Postoperative complications included recurrent bleed(4),redetachment following SOR (3),neovascular glaucoma in 1. 20% developed newer systemic comorbidities at followup Conclusion:Macular TRD was the most common indication of vitrectomy in young diabetics unlike in the elderly.A planned approach with a disciplined systemic control can be sight saving in the era of MIVS.
