Abstract
Optic disc pit (ODP) is a rare congenital anomaly of optic nerve head, characterized by focal excavation of optic disc, commonly in inferotemporal quadrant, variable size/depth,frequently associated with secondary serous macular detachment leading to moderate/severe visual impairment.Various modalities of treatment with variable success include laser, macular buckling and pars plana vitrectomy with tamponade with/without internal limiting membrane(ILM) peeling. We report a case of a 16-year-old boy presenting with progressing ODP-maculopathy and moderate visual loss.Surgical intervention was done in form of PPV with ILM peeling and C3F8.We used a novel technique of double breasting optic-disc based ILM flaps over ODP after centripetal raising of ILM flaps followed by fluid-gas exchange and C3F8(18%) tamponade. To the best of our knowledge, this is a first reported case of double-breasting of ILM flaps used in treatment of ODP-maculopathy resulting in good anatomical and functional recovery.
