Abstract
Valsalva retinopathy is a rare unilateral or bilateral condition that occurs due to sudden rise in intraocular venous pressure causing visual loss due to a premacular haemorrhage. The case is being reported for highlighting the unpredictable nature of Valsalva retinopathy in a young healthy individual, in which the preretinal haemorrhage spontaneously broke through the posterior hyaloid membrane resulting in dense non resolving vitreous haemorrhage requiring surgical intervention. 29 years old male with no known comorbidity presented with sudden onset diminution of vision right eye due to preretinal haemorrhages following bouts of violent coughing and sneezing. While on observation for spontaneous resolution the preretinal haemorrhage broke through the posterior hyaloid membrane and resulted in dense non resolving vitreous haemorrhage. After 10 months of conservative management the haemorrhage persisted and he underwent 25 gauge pars plana vitrectomy with good visual recovery.
