Abstract
A 19-year-old male was admitted to casualty with history of road traffic accident. He was drowsy, with injury to head and both legs. He complained of decreased vision in right eye when shifted to ward. History of using glasses past 5 years. Patient was bedridden- right femur nailing done for fracture shaft femur. A crepe bandage was applied over left leg for muscle strain. Best corrected vision-RE- 6/60p, N36; LE- 6/6p, N6. Both eyes-normal anterior segments.
On dilated fundus exam, right eye- clear media, disc normal, scattered dot and blot haemorrhages, multiple cotton wool spots surrounding the optic disc, a large flame shaped haemorrhage superotemporal to disc, FR dull. OCT RE- mild thinning of neurosensory retina. Left fundus normal.
Case diagnosed as right eye Purtscher retinopathy following trauma and managed conservatively. It is reported here for its rarity.
