Abstract
We present a case of 40 year old gentleman, a diagnosed and treated case of Hansen’s disease, presenting with complaints of blurring of vision, redness, pain in both eyes since 1 week. Patient was not on any treatment and had completed his anti-leprosy treatment 2 years back. After comprehensive ophthalmic and systemic examination, he was diagnosed to have bilateral granulomatous anterior and intermediate uveitis with lepra pearls on iris and on peripheral retina. Anterior chamber tap was negative for acid fast bacilli. Dermatologist deferred treatment as there were no systemic indications. Patient was put on Multi drug therapy (MDT) along with topical and systemic steroids. Ocular inflammation came under control and Lepra pearls showed signs of resolution.
Lepra pearls on iris and peripheral retina in absence of active systemic disease is a rare presentation. Ocular involvement may require a prolonged MDT.
