Abstract
We demonstrate successful removal of retained intraocular foreign bodies (RIOFB) in two different cases with two different approaches. The first patient suffered a hammer and chisel injury to the right eye two months back. Examination revealed normal anterior segment and a small RIOFB lodged in temporal pars plana region with localised area of vitreous incarceration. The second patient, a factory worker, presented with a partial thickness corneal laceration, traumatic cataract, and a RIOFB confirmed on ocular USG. The first patient was managed with parsplana vitrectomy (PPV), encircling scleral band (SB) and RIOFB removal through external scleral cutdown and achieved BCVA of 6/9 . The second patient underwent repair of corneal laceration, lensectomy, PPV,SB, magnet assisted RIOFB removal through limbal route and sulcus implantation of intraocular lens and achieved a final outcome of 6/12. Tailored approaches depending upon location of RIOFB may enable optimal outcome in such cases.
