Abstract
Aim:To evaluate the corneal topographic, tomographic and pachymetric parameters in siblings of patients with keratoconus. Methods:84 siblings of 77 patients with keratoconus were screened using Pentacam HR. Results:10 siblings had clinical keratoconus, of whom 7 had bilateral disease and remaining 3 had clinical keratoconus in one eye with forme-fruste keratoconus in other eye. 8 siblings were keratoconus suspects and pentacam diagnostic criteria for subclinical keratoconus were positive in many.25 eyes had thin corneas (<480µ) and ART max was ≥339 in 58 eyes. Abnormal BAD_D of ≥1.54 was seen in 42 eyes and ≥2.33 in 34 eyes. ISV ≥37 and IVA ≥0.28 was seen in 12 and 19 eyes respectively. Conclusion:Prevalence of clinical and subclinical keratoconus was 11.90% and 13.09% respectively among siblings, which is much higher than in general population (0.05%). This study highlights the importance of sibling screening to be included in our routine practice for early diagnosis and treatment.
