Abstract

Introduction-Malignant melanoma of the conjunctiva is a rare and fatal tumour of middle and old age.It is more common in whites than pigmented races.Although distant metastasis is uncommon in these cases the local recurrence can only be prevented by a meticulous surgical approach with modifications as the case demands.

Objective-Presenting to you 2 such rare melanomas with different fates.

Case 1-A 29 year old male presented with a black lesion on the white part of his left eye adjacent to the medial canthus and caruncle.His whole body was adequately examined and other moles were taken care of.Surgical plan was excision with cryotherapy.

Case 2-A 65 year old woman presented with a black lesion in the white part of right eye adjacent to the limbus with no other lesions in the body.Surgical plan was only excision without cryotherapy and she returned with a recurrence within a year.

This report is to discuss the outcomes of the two cases in the light of different surgical approaches.
