Abstract
A prospective longitudinal study was done. 20 patients who underwent unilateral horizontal muscle recession and resection were included in the study. The difference between pre-operative and immediate post-operative values of secondary astigmatism was significant ( p=0.0025) which became insignificant at 1 week and 1 month (p value=0.36, 0.23 respectively). The difference between pre-operative and immediate post-operative and 1 week post-operative values of total higher order aberrations was significant ( p=0.0139, 0.0401 respectively) which became insignificant at 1 month (p value=0.30). The difference between pre-operative and immediate post-operative cylindrical refractive error was significant (p value=0.0365) which became insignificant at 1 week and 1 month (p value=0.29, 0.97 respectively).
So, unilateral horizontal muscle recession and resection surgeries can induce transient changes in higher order aberrations and cylindrical refractive error in immediate post-operative period.
