Abstract
Pterygium surgery performed world wide is known to have better results with autograft. In this paper I describe a very simple technique of autograft without using sutures glue using diathermy.
The technique safe, economical And innovative with a very small learning curve.
Due to its simplicity, every ophthalmologist can perform the surgery and give excellent results. The results obtained are equal to the results with time tested techniques and are very repeatable. pterygium excission is done the usual way.
After harvesting the graft from the donor site, keeping the graft about 1mm larger than the scleral bed, it is slid into position . To secure the graft instead of using sutures or glue, the corners are held along with the marginal conjunctiva of the recipient site and after drying the area diathermy is used to attach the graft. This is done in all corners, subsequently after apposing the edges of the conjunctiva at donor site, the eye is patched.
