Abstract
PURPOSE:- To report a rare corneal condition in two siblings who presented to ophthalmology outpatient department with complaintsof whitish appearance of blackpart of both eyes since birth.
PATIENTS AND METHODS:-
Two siblings were examined;a 9yr old boy and his 5yr old brother under routine slitlamp biomicroscopy and various blood and urine investigations were done to differentiate the conditions from other corneal dystrophies.
RESULTS:-
In both the cases, slitlamp examination showed cloudy and floury cornea with granular deep stromal opacities. No other abnormalities could be detected in descemets and endothelial layers.
CONCLUSION:-
Corneal farinata is a bilateral corneal dystrophy presenting with innumerable ,tiny, dust like gray dots and flecks in deep cornealstroma immediately anterior to descemets membrane. Further investigation with confocal microscopy is useful to understand the stromal opacities and to differentiate it from other corneal dystrophies.
