Abstract
Aim
To compare OCT biomarkers Epiretinal membrane (ERM) removal vs ERM with ILM peeling and its impact on Visual acuity.
Materials and methods
Patients with Idiopathic ERM who had visual symptoms underwent ERM removal were included. OCT biomarkers: Central macular thickness (CMT), External limiting membrane (ELM), Myoid ellipsoid zone, foveal contour, cystoid macular edema, neuro-sensory detachment (NSD), Dissociation of optic nerve fibre layer and Ganglion cell complex (GCC) was noted.
Results
The CMT, NSD, Foveal contour showed significant difference in both arms.Absence of ELM integrity , myoid-ellipsoid junction was associated with lower visual outcomes. DOFL with ILM peeling was not associated with reduction of VA. Post op reduction of GCC is evident with ILM peel was novel in our study.
Conclusion
ILM removal is associated with DOFL and reduction in GCC but provides long term lower recurrence of epiretinal membrane. VA gains at one year in both arms was comparable.
