Abstract
PURPOSE:-Standards of care of Myopia currently treats only it’s optical & medical consequences rather than limiting it’s progression. Objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of 0.01% atropine eye drop for deceleration of Myopia progression.
METHODS:-The study was a Interventional(Drug),randomised parallel group, placebo controlled conducted for a period of 1.5years in patients of Myopia(-1D to -6D) of age group 6-16 years. The case group of 60 patients received 0.01% atropine eye drop & 60 patients in control group was given placebo(0.5%CMC).
RESULTS:-
In this study we found that the increase in mean(SD) of spherical equivalent of refractive error in case group is -0.14(0.28)D &-0.51(0.58)D in control group. The mean(SD) of absolute change in AL is 0.03(0.23)mm in case & 0.27(1.32)mm in control group.
CONCLUSION:-Result of our study supports the use of 0.01% atropine for deceleration of Myopia progression. 0.01% Atropine can become one of the best preventive measure in future.
