Abstract
Report visual outcome of cataract surgery(CS) in eyes with chorioretinal coloboma(CC). Method: Retrospective case series 64 patients(75 eyes) who had cataract surgery for CC. Result: There were 40(62.5%) males and 24(37.5%) females & mean age 35.7(SD:15.2 (6-68) years. CC grade:Type 1(15,20%), 2(22,9.3%), 3&4 (5,5.4%) and 5(34,45.3%). Type of surgery: Phacoemulsification (PE)(41,54.7%), MSICS(24,32.0%), others(10,13.4%). 6-months post-surgery LogMAR BCVA improved from 1.54(SD:0.63) to 1.0(SD:0.8)(P<.0001). Before surgery 14(21.9%) patients were blind and 12(18.8) were severe visual impairment (SVI). After surgery, 5(7.8%) patients remained blind and 7(10.9%) SVI. Complication: posterior capsule rent: 2.7% eyes, zonular dialysis 5.3%. Factors for poor vision: Type 1&2coloboma(P=.016), nystagmus(P=.001), microcornea(P=.003) & poor baseline vision(P<.001). Conclusion: Visual outcome was good after surgery if there was no nystagmus or microcornea and coloboma spares macula.
