Abstract
We aim to present unique challenge of managing peripapillary staphyloma with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) and highlight high incidence of juxtapapillary microholes in them. This is a retrospective, interventional, case series in which records of 3 eyes with peripapillary staphyloma associated RRD were reviewed. Presence of peripapillary staphyloma was confirmed by clinical examination and optical coherence tomography. Two out of three eyes had high myopia peripheral vitreous detachment was absent in all of them. Absence of definite peripheral breaks in two cases lead to suspicion of juxtapapillary microholes which was successfully managed by nasal peripapillary endolaser. No peripapillary laser done in third case where a definite peripheral break was identified. Peripapillary staphyloma can be considered as a separate risk factor for RRD and high incidence of juxtapapillary microholes suggests that VR surgery should be the treatment of choice in such RRDs.
