Abstract
Aim: To find incidence of glaucoma & its management in pts who underwent PK in a tertiary eye care centre.
Method: 44 consecutive patients undergoing PK were examined including visual acuity, IOP, slit lamp exam. Post operative BCVA, IOP were measured on day 1, week 1, 4 and at every follow-up. Post PK glaucoma were defined as an elevated IOP> 21 mmHg with or without associated visual field loss or optic nerve head changes.
Results: 44 eyes of 44 pts (23M & 21 F) with mean age of 43±12.7 years were followed up to mean 17±8 months. 11 eyes (25%) developed glaucoma with mean IOP (>30mmHg). 8 pts were controlled with medical management alone using a brimonidine–timolol combination in 7 pts & 1 patient needed additional therapy of dorzolamide. Three eyes underwent surgery with Ahmed valve implant. Failure with valve implant required diode laser cyclophotocoagulation in one pt.
Conclusion: Early diagnosis & medical management controls post PK glaucoma effectively in majority of patients.
