Abstract
We, hereby, report a 58 year old female who presented with history of diminution of vision of right eye for past 6 months, for which she was treated with topical medication followed by a posterior sub -tenon injection (triamcinolone) 3 months back. Her vision worsened after the injection. Patient was then referred to the retina clinic suspecting endophthalmitis. Patient’s visual acuity on presentation was 1/60, PR accurate. Fundus – hazy view due to dense whitish vitreous opacities, details of retina unclear. Patient was planned for pars plana vitrectomy. Intra-operatively, a retinal break was noted in the superonasal quadrant – indicating globe perforation during posterior sub-tenon injection. Endolaser was given, globe closed under air. Post-operatively, vision improved to 6/12. Fundus was normal, break visualised, barrage adequate. Globe perforation as a complication of posterior sub-tenon injection can occur rarely and fundus examination post-injection should be done in all cases.
