Abstract
Aim – To assess the incidence of computer eye syndrome during the lock-down era &compare with pre-existing data
Material & methods-Cross sectional , survey based using the symptom based CVS -Q from May 1st to 31st May 2020.
Inclusion criteria – patients 18 and above
Excluded – Patients with pre-existing /corneal pathology
Results – 107 patients, 71 male , 36 female , age group 23 – 74 ( mean 43.4 years), 47.6% patients suffered from symptoms related to computer vision
The maximum incidence (39%)was related to use of IT devices more than 8 hours. Interestingly the maximum score did not correspond to highest duration of computer use but to the use of mobile phones. Commonest symptom was headache and foreign body sensation the least.
Conclusion – Dry eyes is known to occur with use of computers however in the Covid- 19 era when IT devices are more used there is significant amount of dry eyes, with the mobile phone now emerging to be the bigger culprit and this being a new aspect .
