Abstract
P:To compare intravenous methylprednisolone pulse therapy(IVMP-PT) and peribulbar triamcinolone acetonide(p-TA) injections in thyroid eye disease(TED) M:Randomised Controlled Trial.20 patients with moderate-severe active TED were randomised into 2 groups. Group A underwent IVMP-PT and Group B 4 dose of 2-weekly p -TA injection. Clinical Activity Score(CAS) and extraocular muscle(EOM) size on Computed Tomography were assessed at 6-month follow-up. R:Mean CAS of 5±1.15 and 4.9±0.88 decreased to 1.7±1.06 and 2.1±1.29 at 6 months post-treatment,in group A and B respectively(p<0.05 each group). Significant EOM change was seen in Group A(Mean decrease (MD) in Inferior RectusIR, 1.21±0.61 p=0.003;Superior rectusSR,1.1 ± 0.86 p=0.005;Medial RectusMR,1.14+0.7 p=0.003) and Group B (MD in IR,0.69+0.69 p=0.004; SR, 1.49+1.34 p=0.002; MR, 0.88+0.54 p=0.0003). Side effects like gastritis, pedal edema were seen only in group A C:p-TA injections are as efficacious as IVMP with better safety profile.
