Abstract
AIM: To study the incidence, clinical pictures, management and final visual outcome of the patient with ocular firecracker injury.
MATERIAL & METHODS: This is an observational, hospital based and interventional study done in 37 patients who attended eye emergency and outpatient department of tertiary care center. In this study age, sex, severity, etiology, active and passive involvement, management and visual outcome was included.
RESULTS: Out of 37 patient, 34 (91.9%) were male and 3 (8.1%) were female. 35 (94.6%) of them were pediatric age group and had active involvement and 2 (5.4%) of them were old age and had passive involvement. 33 cases have closed-globe injury and 4 cases were open-globe injury. Visual acuity varied from 6/60 to PL negative.
CONCLUSION: Negligence, absence of parental monitoring in children may lead to serious ocular damage. It can be mitigated by taking precautionary measures and restrictive use of category III and IV crackers for children.
