Abstract
Purpose-To study the retinal changes (peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer and central macular thickness) in multiple sclerosis patients using OCT.
Materials and methods-40 patients of multiple sclerosis and equal number of age and sex matched controls were evaluated between june2019 to april2020. Detailed eye examination including BCVA, refraction, dilated fundoscopy and OCT were done in all patients and controls. CMT and peripapillary RNFL thickness was measured in all quadrants and compared.
Results-RNFL thinning was seen in patients of multiple sclerosis compared to the age and sex matched controls. Marked thinning was seen in superior quadrants of right eye with a p value of 0.003 and nasal and Temporal quadrants of left eye (p value of 0.002,0.005).No significant changes were seen in CMT in multiple sclerosis patients compared to the controls which was stastistical analysed (p value of 0.40).
Conclusion:-RNFL thickness was significantly reduced in multiple sclerosis patients.
