Abstract
Aim – To evaluate ocular abnormalities in patients undergoing chemotherapy therapy. Methodology – A prospective observational study is being carried out with patients undergoing chemotherapy. 42 patients were subjected to complete baseline ophthalmic evaluation. Results – Adnexal side effects commonly noted were lid hyperpigmentation (61.9%) and madarosis (61.9%). Epiphora (32.2%), Dry eyes (42.8%) and Blepharitis (34.5%) were the other anterior segment findings. Disc pallor and early Retinal Pigment Epithelium changes were seen in the posterior segment. Higher chemotherapy cycles were associated with more implications. Conclusion – The new list of chemotherapeutic agents requires a new survey of ophthalmic complications. The range of complications, most of which can be treated when detected early. Hence to provide better patient care, Ophthalmologists should work in power with the Oncologists to prevent vision impairment. The study creates the awareness on this need of the hour.
