Abstract
Neuromyelitis optica is inflammatory, demyelinating CNS disease with varied presentations
CASE REPORT:
Case 1: presented with SIMULTANEOUS OPTIC NEURITIS & TRANSVERSE MYELITIS:25 yr female, Diminution of vision OU with lower limb paralysis. Suspicion of NMO raised.
Case2: presented with ISOLATED OPTIC NEURITIS, RELAPSE EPISODE HAD TRANSVERSE MYELITIS, MRI spine revealed demyelinating lesions. SERUM NMO-IgG positive. NMO diagnosed & treated with steroids and IV mitoxentrone.
CASE 3: PRESENTED WITH TRANSVERSE MYELITIS IN COURSE DEVELOPED OPTIC NEURITIS 24 year female presented with weakness of right lower limb.During treatment she DEVELOPED DOV in RE due to optic neuritis,MRI showed LETM,NMOSD diagnosed.
CONCLUSION: NMO was traditionally restricted to the optic nerves and the spinal cord. But since discovery of specific biomarkers, much broader category called “NMO spectrum disorders” (NMOSD) has evolved. Early diagnosis can minimize patient disability and prevent relapses.
