Abstract
ocular trauma is one of the important causes of visual morbidity globally and a majority of it occurs in the workplace.Aim-A prospective case study done to know the profile of work related ocular trauma.Methods-Patients with work related ocular trauma who presented at a tertiary care hospital between Mar1 ‘18 and Apr30 ‘19 were included.Detailed history with complete demographic data was collected.Required ocular examination and imaging was done.The follow up eye status was analyzed.Results-A total of 1505 patients were included.Males formed majority of the sample(94.9%).The most common age group was 20 to 29y(83.3%).The ocular trauma was more in nonorganised work sector.The most common mechanism of work related ocular trauma was ocular surface foreign body while welding metal(97.3%).Ocular trauma due to chemicals was 0.3%. 98.3% patients had no history of using protective eyewear.Conclusion-there is need to increase the awareness among workers on usage of proper, protective eyeware .
