Abstract
Objective- Comparing the efficacy of Monotherapy topical autologous PRP over artificial lubricating eye drops for treatment of moderate – severe dry eye disease.
Method- 30 patients of dry eye disease (DED) were included in this prospective comparative study and were equally divided into two groups.15 patients were treated with topical autologous PRP(aPRP), remaining 15 were treated with artificial lubricating eye drops. Improvement of DED subjective symptoms, Corneal Flourescein Staining (CFS), Tearfilm Breakup Time(TBUT), Schirmers test(SCH) values evaluated for 3 months.
Results- After 3 months of treatment with topical aPRP symptoms improved in 93.3%, CFS reduced in 86.6%, TBUT improved in 80%, SCH increased in 53.3%, after 3 months treatment with artificial lubricants symptoms improved in 46.6% cases, CFS reduced in 26.6%, TBUT increased in 13.3%, SCH increased in 6% patients.
Conclusion- Efficacy of aPRP is superior to artificial lubricants in moderate- severe DED.
