Abstract
Aim: To study the visual status and ocular manifestations in children diagnosed with CP.
Methods: 43 patients diagnosed with CP who were referred from pediatrics department were included. They underwent complete ophthalmological examination including measurement of vision, ocular motility, cover test, cycloplegic refraction along with anterior and posterior segment examination.
Results: 24 M &19 F were included with mean age 3±1.7 years. 34 (79.06%) patients had spastic CP. 28 (65.11%) patients had significant visual disability (<20/200). Strabismus and nystagmus were found in 15 (34.18%) & 10 (23.2%) respectively. Ocular motility was found to be normal in all patients. Bilateral cataract was seen in 2 (4.6%) patients. Fundus findings were disc pallor (20.9%) followed by disc cupping (16.2%) and myopic fundus (11.6%). Conclusion: CP is associated with significant visual impairment. Early examination & routine follow-up is necessary for rehabilitation of patients.
