Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) helps to divert lacrimal drainage into nose through an osteotomy at the level of lacrimal bone.
AIM : To study the outcome of External DCR in failed cases of Endonasal DCR.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Subjects who attended our OPD with prior failed Endonasal DCR as well as lacrimal drainage obstruction were subjected to Conventional External DCR after informed consent. On follow up visits, patency of lacrimal drainage system was checked.
RESULTS: The results of 32 cases showed that post external DCR, 25 cases had patent lacrimal drainage both anatomically and functionally and 7 cases were termed as failure [out of which 5 cases had failed following convententional external DCR, 1 case due to functional blockage & 1 case following conventional external DCR with silicon tubes].
CONCLUSION: External DCR can be attempted as a revision surgery for failed cases of Endonasal DCR with success rate of 78.13%.
