Abstract
Retinopathy of prematurity(ROP) is a leading cause of potentially avoidable childhood blindness worldwide.Short gestation and low birth weight have been identified as the most important risk factors responsible for ROP.This was cross-sectional retrospective study conducted from July 2018 to April 2020 in a tertiary centre in South India.A total of 1125 babies were screened for ROP- 523 babies were female(46.5%),602 were male(53.5%).Mean gestational age was 33.08+_2.28 weeks. Mean birth weight was 1573.50 +- 391.70 grams.Total 250 babies had ROP-183 had bilateral and 67 had unilateral disease(total 433 eyes).Stage 1 ROP was seen in 288 eyes, stage 2 in 113 eyes, stage 3 in 30 eyes and stage 4 ROP in 2 eyes.On multiple logistic regression analysis, gestational age(p <0.0001),low birth weight(p <0.0001),oxygen supplementation(p <0.0001),and sepsis(p <0.001) all showed a significant association with development of ROP.27 eyes of 15 babies were lasered which showed subsequent total regression
