Abstract
Purpose: To assess the effect of glare on contrast sensitivity (CS) in subjects implanted with trifocal IOLs.
Methods: A prospective study where subjects implanted with multifocal IOL (PanOptix, Triphobic,), aged between 40-70 years and BCVA better than 0.1 logMAR were included. Subjects with intra operative complications, ocular disease were excluded. At 1 month follow up, CS at 4 spatial frequencies (3,6,12 and 18 CPD) were measured with and without automatically calibrated glare sources using CSV-1000 HGT (Vector Vision).
Results: 85 eyes with Panoptix IOL and 66 eyes with Triphobic IOL were evaluated. In PanOptix group, CS with glare was significantly reduced at 3 and 6 CPD (Paired t Test, p<0.05) however no effect of glare was observed at 12 and 18 (p>0.05) CPD. In Triphobic group, CS with glare was significantly reduced at all spatial frequencies (p<0.05). Conclusions: Overall CS was found to be reduced with glare in both the IOLs however it was not clinically significant.
