Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of intracameral (IC) moxifloxacin as prophylaxis to reduce rate of endophthalmitis, in cases before and after initiation of IC moxifloxacin in a high volume surgical setup.Material & Methods: A retrospective study is conducted on no. of endophthalmitis from April 2018 to March 2019 (group 1) and is compared with no. of cases in April 2019 to March 2020 (group 2) after change in protocol to give IC moxifloxacin as prophylaxis in group 2. In this study, all surgery were MSICS. We have include cases with intraoperative complication.
Result: Out of 40,392 eyes, 20,533 eyes operated in group 1 and 19,859 eye received IC in group 2. There is significant decrease in endophthalmitis cases in group 2 (3/19,859) 0.015% compare to group 1 (9/20,533) 0.043% [Zcal>Zstd at p=0.05]. Intraoperative PCR show no significant increase in endophthalmitis rate.
Conclusion: Intracameral moxifloxacin given routinely have shown decrease in rate of endophthalmitis incidence.
