Abstract
Purpose: to analyze the outcome of external DCR operation in a tertiary care centre. Materials & Methods: study was done in 70 patients with 73 eyes from 2017 to 2019. The acquired cases with obstruction in the NLD were included. Cases with follow-up period of less than three months were excluded. Follow up syringing was done after 1 wk, 2 wk, 4 wk, 12 wk , and then at 3- 6 month intervals. Disappearance of epiphora with good patency were criteria for success. Results: male female ratio was 3:32(N=6 and 64), Mean age: 38 years (range: 13 – 70 years). Mean follow-up period: 6.9 months. Right to left eye ratio was 53:17. Three patients (4.1%) were operated in both eyes. We found successful outcome in 83.56% (n=61)of eyes. Conclusion: external method of DCR operation is not only cost effective but also with remarkable success rate. It might be a good choice in any Institution even with poor infrastructure.
Key words: external DCR, outcome, acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction.
