Abstract
Introduction: Coronavirus brought the country to a standstill during the lockdown. All elective surgeries were postponed. Cases like R D and similar surgeries could not be postponed due to nature of their pathology. We hereby share our experience of operating such cases. Aim: To know the outcome of R D and other retinal surgeries during the lockdown and assess their biosafety profile. Materials and methods: A total of 8 patients were taken up for retinal surgeries. These patients were thoroughly screened and checked. Prior Covid testing was done (prolonged surgeries). Results- The results of the retinal surgeries were as good as in the normal period. None of the patients or personnel contracted the disease till their last follow up. Conclusion- Emergency surgeries can be taken up during like lockdown if thorough measures are taken. The outcomes are comparable to normal times. Covid testing can be sometimes false negative, hence no stone should be left unturned in taking precautions.
