Colour vision deficiency(CVD) in pre employment population is reported in males(8%),while under reported in post employment, although occupationally impairing.Perceptions of CVD patients determine their QOL
•To determine prevalence of & awareness of CVD in employees,Cross sectional study was conducted (August ‘19 –January’20),in a tertiary hospital.Consecutive individuals under ABY were enrolled, excluding visual acuity<6/9, ocular trauma-surgery,anti TB drugs.Binocular colour vision testing(BCVA) by ischihara’s chart-38 plates & CVD awareness were assessed •1151(1135 males,16 females)were studied, age (22-47 years,34.3±7), job duration 2-27 years.CVD was observed in 7.4%(85) males(RGW-5.3%, RGB-2.1%),0% females.Among 85 CVD males,29% had colour task impairment & 0% had awareness of CVD status, sibling CVD status,Sibling ever tested, inheritability, treatability •CVD prevalence similar to general population, warrants effective preemployment screening and post employment rehabiltation.
