Abstract
PURPOSE:To compare etiology, presentation and visual outcomes in cases of endophthalmitis with concurrent RD(gp1)and post vitrectomy RD(gp2)METHODS:121 patients(gp1-76, gp2-45)were included. The details of demographics, history, intravitreal injections, microbiology profile, characteristics of RD,anatomical and functional success was compared between themRESULTS:Post-surgery endophthalmitis was most common etiology(44.7%-gp1,60%-gp2).Average time to develop RD from vitrectomy was 13.3±28.4 days in gp1.Most patients in both groups had ICD category 4 visual impairment(VI)(81.5%-gp1 and 91.1%-gp2).Most common organisms isolated were gram positive cocci in gp1(37.9%)and gram negative bacilli in gp2(53.8%).At final followup 52.9% in gp1 and 44.5% in gp2 improved to better than ICD3 VI.Anatomically,57.9% and 60% patients in gp1 and 2 had an attached retinaCONCLUSION:There are differences in presentation of patients with RD and endophthalmitis. However, anatomical and functional outcomes are similar.
