Abstract
Aim- To compare the General & visual HRQoL in patients with Benign Essential Blepharospasm(BEB) and healthy controls. Methods-A cross sectional study including 24 patients(age range 20-60 yrs) attending Oculoplasty clinic of a tertiary eye care center between Oct 2019 and March 2020. All patients were asked to fill the Short Form 36(SF-36),Beck’s Depression Inventory(BDI) & National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire-25 (NEI-VFQ).Results- There were no significant demographic influence on HRQoL. 54% patients had depression ( 29% mild ,17% moderate & 8.33% severe depression).SF-36 was much worse in patients with BEB in all 8 domains. The score in NEI-VFQ was worse in all subscales(p value 0.001) except colour vision(p value 0.165).Conclusion-HRQoL in BEB patients is much worse than control population. Treatment of depression, counseling is required for a comprehensive management.
