Abstract
Anterior Plageocephaly or unilateral coronal synostosis is associated with inferior oblique overaction(IOOA)& underacting superior oblique(SO)on same side.In addition to facial asymmetry(FA) due to orbital malformation, head tilt to the opposite side and the ocular plagiocephaly adds to the FA.
Aim:To analyse the effect of strabismus surgery(Sx)on head tilt and facial asymmetry in SO underaction in plagiocephaly.
Methods:An observational study of patients presented with hypertropia(HT)and plagiocephaly during 2008-2014 done in a teaching institution in South India. After ophthalmic evaluation,Fundus photo, orthoptic work up&assessment of facial asymmetry by canthus to angle of mouth(CAM) measurement, underwent Sx.
Results:6girls(2sisters) &2 boys with mean age 5.4 years,mean 23pd(15-30)in primary position,IOOA2+to 4+& 2 with XT 15&20pd.5had IOrecession &3 had IOanteriorisation.2had LRrecession.Mean HT reduced to5.3pd.CAM reduced by1.4mm.Conclusion:Early Sx can improve facial asymmetry
